Charles married Elizabeth Kay between 1525 and 1528. Elizabeth had six sons and nine daughters from a
previous marriage and Charles and Elizabeth had one son, John, born 1528.
John Towneley was a lawyer and often acted on behalf of his cousin, Sir Richard Towneley, who was involved
in over a dozen lawsuits in the court of the Duchy of Lancaster during his life.
