I've known for many years that I was related to the racing Elliotts from Dawsonville GA.
Bill's father George told me so himself. But until I did some research I wasn't "exactly" sure how.
I have found verified how and show it below.
ONLY the Townley's that are descendants of Leander Townley and Florence Burt Bennet fall into this category.
It begins in 1820 with Isaac John Elliott and wife Emily "Millie" Smith.
From my findings; they had 15 children. Among those were Mary Manerva Elliott b 1847; and brother Ross Anderson Elliott b 1854.
Manerva Elliott married William Jacob Bennett. They had eight children; the last of those being Florence Burt Bennett.
Florence married Leander Pirkle "Lee" Townley and they had ten children. The children of this pair are related to the racing Elliotts.
On the Elliott side of things; Ross Elliott married Alpharette Bruce and they had ten children. One was Erving George Elliott Sr b 1894
Erving Elliott Sr married Ruby Isabel Hughes. They had a son Ervining George Elliott Jr. b 1924. who married Mildred Reece.
This couple has the sons that formed the powerful race team; with William Clyde "Bill" Elliott as driver; Ernie Elliott and engine builder and Dan Elliott as crew chief.
Bill had two children with his first wife Martha (Starr and Brittany); and with his second wife Cindy they had William Clyde "Chase" Elliott.
Ernie and his wife Sheila also produced a good race car driver; Casey Elliott - but unfortunately he would develop cancer and die just as his race career was taking off.
