NOTES
Prince Harry is the younger son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales. He was born in St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London on 15 September 1984. Growing up, he was referred to as 'Harry' by family, friends, and the public. Harry and his elder brother, William, were raised at Kensington Palace in London, and Highgrove House in Gloucestershire. Diana wanted him and his brother to have a broader range of experiences and a better understanding of ordinary life than previous royal children. She took them to venues that ranged from Walt Disney World and McDonald's to AIDS clinics and homeless shelters. After passing entrance exams, he was admitted to Eton College. Harry followed in his older brother's footsteps and the Spencer family, as both Diana's father and brother attended Eton. As was the case with his brother, the royal family and the tabloid press agreed Harry would be allowed to study free from intrusion in exchange for occasional photograph opportunities. He has been described as "a top tier athlete", having played competitive polo and rugby union.
Harry entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst on 8 May 2005, where he was known as Officer Cadet Wales, and joined the Alamein Company. In April 2006, Harry completed his officer training and was commissioned as a Cornet (second lieutenant) in the Blues and Royals, a regiment of the Household Cavalry in the British Army. On 13 April 2008, when he reached two years' seniority, Harry was promoted to lieutenant. In 2006, it was announced that Harry's unit was scheduled to be deployed in Iraq the following year. Harry was secretly deployed as a Forward Air Controller to Helmand Province in Afghanistan for ten weeks. It was later reported that Harry helped Gurkha troops repel an attack from Taliban insurgents, and performed patrol duty in hostile areas while in Afghanistan. His tour made Harry the first member of the British royal family to serve in a war zone since his uncle, Prince Andrew, who flew helicopters during the Falklands War.
In October 2008, it was announced that Harry would follow his brother, father and uncle in learning to fly military helicopters. Harry attended the Defense Helicopter Flying School at RAF Shawbury, where he joined his brother. Harry was awarded his Apache Flying Badge on 14 April 2011. On 16 April 2011, it was announced that Harry had been promoted to captain.
After his over-seas deployment ended; In January 2015, it was reported that Harry would take on a new role in supporting wounded service personnel by working alongside members of the London District's Personal Recovery Unit. He would help to ensure that wounded personnel have adequate recovery plans. On 17 March 2015, Kensington Palace announced that Harry would leave the Armed Forces in June. Harry has described his 10 years in the army as "the happiest times in my life".
In July 2016, Prince Harry began a relationship with American actress Meghan Markle. Their engagement was announced on 27 November 2017 by Harry's father Prince Charles. The announcement prompted generally positive comments about having a mixed-race person as a member of the royal family. On 19 May 2018, the marriage ceremony was held at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. In preparation for the wedding, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, baptized Markle and confirmed her into the Church of England on March 6, 2018. The private ceremony, performed with water from the River Jordan, took place in the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace.
The Duke and Duchess initially lived at Nottingham Cottage in London, on the grounds of Kensington Palace. They then moved to Frogmore Cottage in the Home Park of Windsor Castle. On 6 May 2019, the Duke and Duchess's son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor was born. After some months in Canada and the United States, the couple bought a house in June 2020 on the former estate of Riven Rock in Montecito, California. On 4 June 2021, their daughter Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor was born.
In 2020, Harry and Meghan's decided to "step back" as senior members of the royal family. 95% of the couple's income derived from the £2.3 million given to them annually by Harry's father, Charles, as part of his income from the Duchy of Cornwall. Like his mother Diana; Harry is involved with humanitarian and environmental activities.
Meghan MARKLE
was born on August 4, 1981 and raised in Los Angeles, California. Markle attended Hollywood Little Red Schoolhouse. She was raised as a Protestant, but she graduated from L.A.'s Immaculate Heart High School, an all-girl Catholic school. In 1999, Markle was admitted to Northwestern University (NU) in Evanston, Illinois. In 2003, Markle earned her bachelor's degree with a double major in theater and international studies from Northwestern's School of Communication. According to Markle, she had some difficulty getting roles early in her career due to being "ethnically ambiguous" because "I wasn't black enough for the black roles and I wasn't white enough for the white ones".
Her first on-screen appearance was a small role as a nurse in an episode of the daytime soap opera General Hospital. She also did several contract acting and modeling jobs, including a stint as a "briefcase girl" on the US-version of the game show Deal or No Deal. In July 2011, she joined the cast of the USA Network show Suits through to late 2017 and the seventh season. Her character, Rachel Zane, began as a paralegal and eventually became an attorney.
In January 2018, Markle became interested in the Hubb Community Kitchen run by survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire. She visited the kitchen regularly, and suggested that the displaced women publish a cookbook to assist in funding for the group. Together: Our Community Cookbook, her first charity project as Duchess of Sussex, was announced in September. It proceeds from the cook amounted to £10,000. The couple have been involved in numerous charitable events over the years
