NOTES
Augustine got his education in London and Cambridge ENG. He went to Merchant Taylors School in London at age eleven. He attended Cambridge in 1653. When he returned to Virginia, he became very prominent in the social and political life of the colony. Virginia's colonial government consisted of a Governor appointed by the King of England, a Governor's Council of about a dozen men, and the House of Burgesses. In the time of Augustine Jr., Councilors were appointed by the King, probably at the suggestion of the Governor. The House of Burgesses was elected and was composed of two men from each of the counties of Virginia. In 1676, Augustine became Speaker of the House of Burgesses. By the end of that year, 11 Jan 1676, he was a member of the Governor's Council.
A Court-martial was held that day, the court was reported as the Governor and Council. Col. Warner was listed among them. He apparently continued his duties as Speaker of the House of Burgesses at least until April of 1677. His position on the council continued until his death. Besides his position's in the colony, he was Colonel, Commandant of the Gloucester County militia, which he held as early as 1675, so probably succeeded his father as Colonel.
This couple produced three daughters who would go on to have descendants that were known worldwide for their accomplishments.
Mary Warner married Captain John Smith and her descendants would go on to become the Monarchy of England (Queen Elizabeth)
Mildred Warner married Captain Lawrence Washington. They are the grand parents of the first U.S. President George Washington.
Elizabeth Warner would marry Colonel John Lewis III. This couple would be the great grand parents of Meriwether Lewis. He is most notibly known as the leader of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. The Lewis and Clark Expedition began in 1804, when President Thomas Jefferson tasked Meriwether Lewis with exploring lands west of the Mississippi River that comprised the Louisiana Purchase. Lewis chose William Clark as his co-leader for the mission. The excursion lasted over two years and covered about 8,000 miles. The expedition proved to be a huge success as they found "the Northwest Passage"; a water route from St Louis MO to the Pacific ocean.
